Enjoying great success in music, film, television, and the stage, Dean Martin was more than just an entertainer. He was a real cool icon. In all the work that he did in these various fields and venues, he always gave the impression that he was having fun. How could you not enjoy watching and listening to Dean Martin.
Tony Bennett has had a very long career as a singer of jazz and popular music hits. He is perhaps the only artist to have new albums charting from the 1950’s through to the first two decades of the 21st century. He has introduced a multitude of songs into the Great American Songbook that have since become standards for pop music.
Julie Andrews was arguably the best at everything: singing, dancing, acting in both dramas and comedies, performing on the stage, on television and in movies. She was an unbelievable talent, or better, she had many unbelievable talents. In this program we will see and hear some performances from this great star of the entertainment world.
Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II were both well-established talents before they collaborated in 1943 to produce their first hit show, “Oklahoma!”. Hammerstein wrote the text and lyrics, Rogers composed the music. They would then go on to become the most successful team in musical theatre history and dominate Broadway for the next two decades, establishing the American music theater as we know it today.
