Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II were both well-established talents before they collaborated in 1943 to produce their first hit show, “Oklahoma!”. Hammerstein wrote the text and lyrics, Rogers composed the music. They would then go on to become the most successful team in musical theatre history and dominate Broadway for the next two decades. They established the American music theater as we know it today.
